CRIME NEWS

  • A Greenwood man pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death and was sentenced to 20 years in prison after he fled a traffic stop on the S.C. Highway 72 bypass, hit an SUV, and struck an 85-year-old veteran who later died — he drove at 68 mph in a 35 mph zone with a blood-alcohol level of .109.  WSPA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Several Spartanburg venues will host live music events in August—spanning rock, acoustic, and family-friendly shows—and the schedule features a Stevie Wonder tribute benefit on Aug. 10 at FR8yard along with a Jazz in the Garden on Aug. 30 at Indigo Hall.  The Post and Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • FabLogix announced it is expanding its operations in Spartanburg County with a $9.8 million investment, creating 150 new jobs by opening a new facility covering 150,000 square feet at 201 Commerce Court in Duncan (operations are already online). The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits and awarded a $150,000 set-aside grant to the county.  WYFF
  • The tax-free shopping weekend for school items begins Friday, August 1 at 12 a.m., letting shoppers in Spartanburg save up to 7% by exempting many back-to-school supplies from state and local taxes—major retailers like Target are also offering extra discounts on essentials such as backpacks and notebooks.  WSPA
