CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A person was shot in the hand Thursday evening on Valley Falls Road — deputies transported the victim to the hospital and are still investigating the incident. WSPA
- ➤ The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals after a car chase that started in Spartanburg and ended on Woodruff Road in Greenville—officials said the chase began when suspects fled a report of domestic violence. WSPA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Several organizations in Greenville, Spartanburg & Anderson counties are hosting free back-to-school drives, vaccination clinics, and resource fairs to help students and families prepare for the new school year. - ➤ South Carolina school districts have set start dates for the 2025-2026 school year—Spartanburg schools will begin on August 11 while other districts start between July 21 and August 18. WYFF
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office asked the S.C. Secretary of State to audit its Crime Stoppers financial account after an internal review found unexplained discrepancies—officials said the audit will help determine if the issues come from poor bookkeeping or possible improprieties. - ➤ Between Jan. 1, 2023 and July 4, 2024, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office spent over $16,500 on helicopter fuel at Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport without filing mission logs—officials said a planned audit was halted after funding cuts and the aviation program ended. Former Sheriff Chuck Wright resigned on May 23 and is under state and federal investigation for misusing funds. The Post and Courier
