- ➤ Bill Rhyne and Rusty Clevenger will face a runoff on Aug. 19 for Spartanburg County sheriff after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote — early voting runs from Aug. 13 to 15 and the general election is on Nov. 4. Voters also cast ballots for the council seat left by David Britt, and Jason C. Lynch and Paul D. Abbot Jr. will compete in a runoff. WYFF
- ➤ Spartanburg’s Design Review Board gave final approval on Aug. 5th for a $52 million joint government complex that will break ground later this year and include a planned six story parking deck with 1,000 parking spots — the deck will feature a one way entrance on Broad Street and exit on Spring Street and is expected to handle over 6,000 trips daily. - ➤ Donors to the Spartanburg-based ETV Endowment have stepped up to help offset congressional cuts of over $1 billion from public broadcasting and to keep programming on SCETV and South Carolina Public Radio unchanged—listeners in nearby areas recently raised nearly $132K to support local public media. The endowment, which reported raising over $11 million in 2024 and operates from its Kennedy Street office, remains committed to filling funding gaps as community backing grows. Go Upstate
- ➤ Spartanburg voters will go to the polls for a sheriff runoff on Aug. 19 after no candidate won over 50 percent of the 25,780 ballots, with Highway Patrolman Bill Rhyne and Coroner Rusty Clevenger advancing from nine candidates.
