CRIME NEWS

  • Gaffney police responded to a domestic dispute call on Aug. 4 and arrested 34-year-old Dylan Rhett Simpson—who was found with a Glock 27 equipped with an illegal machine gun conversion device, additional firearms, drugs, and extra magazines—in a search that led to multiple criminal charges.  WYFF
  • Spartanburg Police are looking for 56-year-old Tammy E. Crowley, who was reported missing on Friday after leaving Spartanburg Medical Center’s emergency room at 1:24 a.m. Thursday without being discharged; her family said she does not have her heart and blood pressure medications or cellphone, she is unfamiliar with Spartanburg, and she has a butterfly tattoo on her ankle.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spartanburg’s design review board approved an $80 million multi-story government complex on Broad and Church streets that will house city and county offices and council meetings; a 1,000-space parking garage also received preliminary approval, with groundbreaking targeted for October. The project, funded by a one percent sales tax approved in 2017, is expected to be completed between late 2027 and early 2028—nearby projects have led to Blue Moon Specialty Foods closing its Church Street location on Sept. 30—affecting the downtown area.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spartanburg Regional doctor Sonya Joseph advised parents to help their children start school well by getting enough sleep, a nutritious breakfast and balanced snacks, and she explained that preschoolers should sleep from 10 to 13 hours, school-age kids from 9 to 12 hours and teens from 8 to 10 hours. She added that checking backpack weight—no more than 5 to 10 percent of the child's weight—is important for comfort and safety.  WSPA
  • Residents in Brookside Village along Stone Drive must boil water for at least one minute for drinking and cooking after a water main break—officials say the water appears safe, and customers will be notified when the issue is resolved.  WSPA
