COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Chesnee will host its 3rd Annual Labor Day Festival from August 30 to September 1 at 220 W. Cherokee Street—co-hosted by the Chesnee Area Development Association and Operation Grow Spartanburg, the event will feature live music, food trucks and free rides for kids—supporting local vendors during the holiday season.  WSPA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Union County School District is working on Union Uplifted, a cradle to career education plan that follows students from birth to graduation and beyond—this program will add adult navigators to guide each child through school and future careers. The plan is modeled after Spartanburg’s SAM Movement 2030 and is supported by public, private, and non-profit groups.  WSPA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The SC 11 bridge over I-26 in northern Spartanburg County will close for repairs on September 3 as SCDOT begins work on the project. The bridge will reopen in October with intermittent lane closures continuing—lawmakers have approved $200 million for the repairs plus additional federal funds.  Go Upstate

SPORTS NEWS

  • College football kicks off Week 0 on Saturday as USA TODAY Sports record projections favor Penn State in the Big Ten, Clemson in the ACC, and Texas in the SEC – the Fighting Irish are expected to lose only once. Group of Five favorites include teams like Tulane, Boise State and James Madison – the detailed projections cover all 136 teams entering the season.  Go Upstate
