- ➤ Mushrooms have spread across the region after heavy August rain and warm weather, with local experts from SCUMS and the National Weather Service noting that fungi are quickly growing in forests and neighborhoods — a sign of nature’s response to unusual conditions. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina signed a hands free driving law on May 12 that bans holding cellphones while driving and on the lap, and law enforcement will start issuing warnings on Sept. 1 with fines beginning at $100 after Feb 28—drivers caught with hand held phones will also have points added—ensuring the new rule is enforced. - ➤ The Hub City Spartanburgers and Greenville Drive honored Negro League teams at Fifth Third Park on August 24 when players wore Black Spinners and Sluggers jerseys and former Spartanburg Sluggers second baseman Archie Means threw out the first pitch.
