- ➤ At an August 25 city council meeting, Spartanburg officials discussed relocating the downtown clock tower to clear space for a new hotel and improved streetscaping — city manager Chris Story presented plans to dismantle the tower for display in a new government complex or move it to a new site, while some residents voiced concerns over losing a historic landmark.
