CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mullins police are asking for help finding Dante J. Gore—wanted for attempted murder and weapon possession during a violent incident on Academy Street Sunday afternoon, and he is considered armed and dangerous so anyone who sees him should call 911. WYFF
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new cultural monument in Southside Spartanburg honors Black leaders who helped shape education, business, sports and religion in the area. Councilmember Rosalyn Henderson-Myers led the planning for the 150-foot-long structure—featuring 37 panels and more than 1,000 LED lights each—located at South Converse Street and Hudson Barksdale Boulevard. - ➤ Salt Run Entertainment, led by Broadway actor and director Charles Randolph-Wright, will set up a film and TV production studio residency at Spartanburg Community College’s Spark Center in Duncan, giving students internship and workshop opportunities. The company’s partnership with the Urban League of the Upstate is expected to boost the local creative economy — helping to grow homegrown talent. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Spartanburg County School Districts 1 and 5 will ask voters on Nov. 4 to approve bonds for new school construction and facility updates to meet growing enrollment needs—District 5 plans $200M for three new schools and District 1 seeks $140M for a new middle school, an updated elementary, and renovations with no tax increase. - ➤ Special election primaries for the State Senate District 12 and State House District 21 seats will be held on Oct. 21 after two lawmakers resigned, with early voting from Oct. 6 to Oct. 17 at polling places in Spartanburg and Greenville counties. Ballots list candidates including Hope Blackley, Justin Bradley, Lee Bright, and Sundra Proctor Smith for the Senate seat and Reggy Baston, Dianne Mitchell, Steve Nail, and Jack Stott for the House seat—voters will choose their new legislators. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health officials confirmed a measles case in the Upstate — an unvaccinated person who traveled abroad is isolating at home while DPH starts a contact investigation. This is the third measles case reported in South Carolina since July. WYFF
