ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are investigating after 88-year-old Grady Leon Johnson of Inman drowned while fishing on Lyman Lake Tuesday morning between 8:17 and 8:58 a.m.—officials received a call just after 9 a.m. about the possible drowning.  WYFF
  • An 88-year-old man from Inman was found dead at Lyman Lake on Tuesday morning after drowning while fishing between 8:17 and 8:58 a.m.—the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.  WSPA

  • Walmart opened a new high-tech perishable distribution center in Wellford that uses robots to move heavy boxes to help supply 180 local stores. The 725,000-square-foot facility employs over 600 workers + is hiring additional staff + for roles like automation equipment operators with wages from $19.90 to $34.20 per hour.  Go Upstate

CRIME NEWS

  • Spartanburg police responded at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday to a shooting in the Walmart parking lot— a woman was injured when her ex-boyfriend fired from his vehicle and the suspect fled in a gray sedan while she was taken to a local hospital.  WYFF
  • Deputies at the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office are asking for help identifying an individual—who may have details on a Target investigation in Boiling Springs—by urging anyone with information to contact them promptly.  WYFF
  • A Spartanburg County deputy—on paid leave after shooting a person wielding a large kitchen knife on Bridgeford Lane at about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 8—is under SLED investigation as the victim was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center while both remain unidentified.  Go Upstate

  • Forbes released its top 10 best employers list for South Carolina, urging job seekers to consider companies with high employee ratings. The ranking—based on surveys of over 160,000 workers—features national firms like Honeywell and Publix along with local employers such as Michelin.  Go Upstate
