CULTURE NEWS

  • Preslie Ross, the runner-up at the Miss North Carolina USA pageant held in Spartanburg last weekend, says she broke no rules and that the crowned winner was ineligible; her attorney warned that a lawsuit will be filed if the organizers do not correct the result. A Blaize Productions defended its decision by stating Ross used the makeup bar without proper registration — a rule violation that led to her disqualification.  The Post and Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Atlantic hurricane season stayed quiet as the peak passed yesterday—no tropical storms or hurricanes formed while forecasters tracked only two tropical waves.   • Spartanburg leaders are considering a new hate crimes ordinance as advocates push for local protections and several officials support a review of proposed language that addresses bias crimes—City Manager Chris Story will study the issue and present ideas to council in the coming weeks.  Go Upstate

  • Fr8Yard will host the Wofford Yard Party at 6:30 p.m. today in downtown Spartanburg to raise funds for cancer research with live music, a raffle from local businesses, and a specialty drink called the Terrier Transfusion—bone marrow swabbing is offered by Lachlan's Hope.  The Post and Courier
