BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Woodward, a company that makes energy control products for airplanes and industry, said it will build a 300,000 square foot factory in Spartanburg County at Smith Farms Industrial Park that will create 275 jobs and make parts for flight control; the plant will open in 2027 — the county received a 1.75 million dollars grant for site work. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Experts advise parents and students to complete FAFSA early because doing so may help secure more federal aid and state scholarships amid rising college costs—strong grades and early applications boost funding opportunities. WSPA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Transportation has unveiled a plan to ease traffic at Reidville and Anderson Mill Roads by removing left turns, adding a U-turn area with a traffic light, and improving sidewalks and signals—public comments are open until October 30 and construction will start early 2027. - ➤ Spartanburg County’s new Pet Resource Center, a $24.6 million project on Southport Road, is nearing completion and will open in 2026—officials say it is designed to help pet owners avoid shelter overcrowding by offering animal housing, clinical services, and volunteer opportunities. The center will also hold a Run Walk Wag fundraiser at 8 a.m. October 4 at Holston Park in Inman. WSPA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ After a water main break on Tuesday evening, the Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District issued a boil water advisory for Inman residents along Hannon Road—between William Bottom Road and New Cut Road, Olin Drive, and Martha Court. Officials said the water is safe but must be boiled for one minute until the problem is fixed. WYFF

- ➤ SCHSL high school football games are set for Week 4 with contests planned on Thursday, Sept. 18 and Friday, Sept. 19. The schedule lists matchups for local teams (including Spartanburg and others) as they compete in the regular season. Go Upstate
- ➤ Four-star Arkansas commit quarterback Jayvon Gilmore left Gaffney football, coach Donnie Littlejohn said—he played in three games this season including a touchdown. Gaffney, standing at 1-2, will play Boiling Springs on September 19 after Gilmore shared time with Greenville transfer Banks Bouton. Go Upstate
