COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new $25M pet resource center will open in early 2026 in Spartanburg County, featuring 91 kennels and rooms for surgery, imaging, examinations and pharmacy — the facility uses an alternate intake system to quickly reunite stray animals with their families. Clayton Construction is building the center at 1591 Southport Road while Spartanburg County Animal Control will join the new Animal Welfare Services Department in October.  The Post and Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dutch Bros Coffee is opening its first drive-thru location in Upstate South Carolina at 3103 N Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville before the end of the year. Founded in 1992 in Grants Pass (Oregon), the chain now serves over 1,000 locations across 22 states with a variety of handcrafted drinks.  WYFF

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local historians say the renovated Walnut Grove Plantation home from 1765 highlights Revolutionary War history—its improvements make a visual link to Spartanburg County's past.  Go Upstate
  • The Gaffney Little Theatre, founded in 1972, plans to build a new facility on a nearly 2-acre site on East Floyd Baker Boulevard and could open as soon as 2028 if fundraising reaches its goal — board members will hire an architect and secure city approval before construction starts. The project aims to replace the old building that closed in 2018 and help maintain local performing arts opportunities.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that partisan gerrymandering does not break the state constitution by denying the League of Women Voters' request to remove a 2022 redistricting plan—claiming that state lawmakers have broad power over map-making. The ruling cited federal cases that say courts cannot settle political issues.  WSPA
