COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sept. 23, 2025, Wofford College held a vigil in Mickel Chapel to honor Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist killed on Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University — the event drew a packed crowd and led to the official recognition of the college’s Turning Point chapter as flyers encouraged donations for his wife and children. The gathering reflected the deep impact Kirk had on students and his role in campus politics.  The Post and Courier

  • Grammy-award winning artist David Phelps brings his Lift Your Voice Tour with Selah to Spartanburg today at Crossroads Baptist Church at 130 Conway Black Road + he will visit 16 cities over 2025.  The Post and Courier

  • Residents who plant red valerian (Jupiter's Beard) will attract hummingbirds and butterflies to their gardens as the low-maintenance plant provides rich nectar in the fall and winter. The bright, tubular blooms thrive in sunlit, well-drained soil and offer an easy way to enjoy local wildlife.  Go Upstate

  • Spartanburg launched its SpartaGo microtransit pilot program last week to help residents travel downtown and surrounding areas—riders enjoy four free trips before paying a flat fee of $2 per ride.  The Post and Courier
  • The South Carolina Office of Resilience opened four new offices in the Upstate to help residents recover from Hurricane Helene. A new office opened yesterday in Spartanburg to serve residents in Spartanburg, Laurens, Union, Chester, York and Cherokee counties—offering walk-in disaster case management and free repair services while mobile intakes continue.  WSPA
