- ➤ Spartanburg County Emergency Services is asking groups of three or more to help clean up remaining Hurricane Helene debris this Fall – several local partners have already scheduled service days and donations are also welcome. WSPA
- ➤ Fall festivals are taking place across the Upstate as the season begins; in Spartanburg, the Piedmont Interstate Fair runs from Oct 7 to 12 offering rides, contests and live acts, a Fire Department Open House on Oct 12 provides interactive safety tours, and events at Spartanburg Community College and CC Woodson on Oct 18 bring live music and food trucks — all designed for family fun. - ➤ The National Weather Service said a tropical wave may have become a depression over the weekend as it interacts with Hurricane Humberto—if it strengthens into Tropical Storm Imelda, heavy rain and strong winds could hit parts of the Carolinas early next week. - ➤ South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a State of Emergency yesterday to prepare for Tropical Disturbance 94L, which forecasters say may turn into a tropical storm and bring heavy rains and flooding statewide—his executive order activates emergency plans and allows state agencies to seek FEMA reimbursement. - ➤ City Council voted 4—2 on Sept. 22 to remove Spartanburg’s Morgan Square clock tower that has stood as a local landmark for over 40 years, as plans to redesign the square with a new clock tower move forward. City Manager Chris Story said restoring the tower would cost up to $900,000, and some residents worry about losing a key piece of the city’s history. The Post and Courier

- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed a measles case in an Upstate resident that marked the fourth case since July, with the unvaccinated patient placed in isolation to prevent virus spread — officials advise those infected to stay home for four days after the rash appears.
