  • A family is holding a concert today at Smoking Buttheads BBQ to honor Anna Maria, a Boiling Springs High School honor student who died when a tree fell on her home during Hurricane Helene exactly one year ago—some proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund to help local students attend college.  WSPA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Storm models from 8 a.m. Saturday showed that Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, now called Imelda, is being pulled out to sea by the strengthening Hurricane Humberto, reducing impacts to the Carolinas. Coastal areas will face wind gusts over 35 mph, heavy rain, high rip currents, and beach erosion late Monday through Wednesday—while the Upstate and WNC will see much less rain.  WYFF
  • Tropical Depression Nine affected the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts from Friday night to Saturday morning by producing large swells, strong rip currents and heavy rain with winds of 30-45 mph. Models showed it was pulled out to sea by Hurricane Humberto and the storm is expected to strengthen into Category One Hurricane Imelda by Tuesday while the Upstate experienced wind gusts of 20-30 mph and minimal rain.  WYFF
