- ➤ One year after Hurricane Helene devastated the regional communities and claimed 49 lives in South Carolina, families continue to face deep grief and irreplaceable loss. A memorial concert in downtown Spartanburg is planned to honor victims like Annamaria Fletcher—highlighting a community still healing from the storm's impact. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Walnut Grove Manor House has been restored for $1.5M after repairs fixed its foundation, walls, and ceiling and prevented the historic building from collapsing—public tours will resume at Festifall Weekend on Oct. 4—5. The project preserved key details of the site’s history for future visitors. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Tropical Depression Nine is expected to become Tropical Storm Imelda today and may reach Category 1 strength before curving out to sea, which will bring scattered rain up to 0.5 inches and wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph to the Upstate — easing local impacts as Humberto pulls the storm away. Parts of Florida are under a Tropical Storm Watch while the Bahamas may see tropical storm conditions tonight and coastal areas face strong rip currents and large swells through Wednesday. WYFF
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The CDC has warned that NDM-CRE—a hard-to-treat bacteria—caused 12,700 infections and 1,100 deaths in the U.S. in 2020 and has been found in 33 South Carolina cases, mostly in healthcare settings where better testing and control measures are needed. Go Upstate
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Dorman High School is the only Upstate school to have two players on the South Carolina Shrine Bowl All-Star roster + defensive back Kentavion Anderson and defensive lineman Christian Waring will play in the game on Dec. 20 at Spartanburg High School where top seniors from South Carolina face those from North Carolina. - ➤ Rosters for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas were released Sunday and show that 15 area players have been named to the South Carolina team coached by Liberty’s Paul Sutherland — players selected from nearby communities will compete in the game. WSPA
- ➤ South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer said his team will use an open date to review LSU material and prepare for ranked SEC opponents—including No. 13 LSU on Oct. 11—after a 35—13 win over Kentucky. The Gamecocks plan to improve their offense while the coaching staff adjusts practice plans as they get ready for a challenging stretch of games. Go Upstate
