  • On Monday, a gathering at Cleveland Park Event Center in Spartanburg honored the nine lives lost to Hurricane Helene and recognized the heroes who helped with storm recovery—county officials said the event powerfully reminded them of the community's resilience—.  WYFF
  • One year after Hurricane Helene struck Spartanburg County, community members gathered Monday at Cleveland Park to honor nine lives lost and first responders who worked amid the devastation — officials noted the tribute reinforced a lasting community resilience.  WSPA
  • Wellford’s Blessing Boxes ran empty on September 29—ending a four-year tradition of overflowing donations—and police chief David Green along with local donors like the Lowerys are asking residents to help fill the boxes as winter and the holidays approach.  WSPA
  • On Monday, Spartanburg Humane Society featured Spice, a calm 2‑month‑old kitty ready to find her forever home. She was spayed, microchipped and became available for adoption at $95—this fee covered boarding, daycare and an engraved tag.  WSPA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hillshire Brands recalled 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage on a stick products after consumer complaints led to discoveries of wood pieces that caused injuries. The recall covers items packaged between March 17 and Sept. 26 and includes Jimmy Dean and State Fair brands—customers are urged to check freezers and discard or return the products.  Go Upstate

  • From September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated as upstate Hispanic leaders join WYFF News 4 with Peyton Furtado to share community news and the Hispanic Alliance marks 15 years—highlighting local cultural pride.  WYFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting October 1, public high school students from all seven Spartanburg districts will access the new Big Mo program by Spartanburg Academic Movement and Movement 2030 to get help with college planning, financial aid, and career choices—students can use a texting platform and dashboard to track steps and receive renewable scholarships from local colleges.  WSPA

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Carolina football will play a night game at LSU on October 11 and the kickoff time plus TV channel will be finalized on October 4. The SEC announced options include start times of 7, 7:30 or 7:45 p.m. ET and broadcasts on ESPN—ABC or the SEC Network.  Go Upstate
