BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blue Moon Specialty Foods closed its downtown Church Street location as the city purchased the property for a new government complex—shifting operations to its Daniel Morgan Avenue bodega with extended hours for breakfast and catering. The owners plan to open a new downtown restaurant after the government complex is complete in 2028 or 2029.  Go Upstate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Freemasons at Spartan Lodge #70 reported people sleeping on the property and leaving belongings, with video from Tuesday showing shoes, blankets, and graffiti near the temple's air conditioning units—city officials said they are working with Spartan County partners and the Homeless Engagement and Response Team to address the issue.  WYFF
  • Spartanburg County Public Libraries is finishing its new 25,000 square-foot wing that features a 50ft planetarium and a Maker Lab renamed for Kitty Black Perkins, set to open in October—public tours are scheduled on October 17th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. as director Todd Stephens noted that the $15 million project marks the library’s 140th anniversary.  WSPA
  • Spartanburg crews are preparing to dismantle the historic clock tower as part of a redevelopment plan—one that will replace it with a new tower at the joint government building. Landscaping has been removed and crews are waiting for bids after the city council voted last week.  WYFF
  • Cody Bauman has been named the new Vice President — Chief Operating Officer at GSP Airport, with his role set to begin on October 4th; he will lead operations, facilities and asset management and public safety functions including police and fire services. His appointment brings experienced leadership to the executive team as the airport prepares for future growth.  Spartanburg.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Prisma Health, with support from a SAMHSA grant, is offering free virtual mental health first aid certification courses on October 20 and October 30 for adults living or working in South Carolina—these courses teach how to recognize and address conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma while providing a three-year certification and professional development hours.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school football is past the halfway mark and week 6 featured exciting red zone plays from teams such as the Westside Rams with a blocked punt, Byrnes Rebels with a long pass, Eastside Eagles with a key touchdown, Gaffney Indians with a strong drive, and Greenwood Eagles with crucial interceptions — details will be shown on the Preview show every Thursday at 8 p.m.  WSPA
