- ➤ Andy and Mindy Connolly will open The Beerded Cork taproom on Oct. 10 at 2601 E. Main St after years of delay. The venue offers 30 taps for local beers, wine and non-alcoholic drinks & invites families, pets and local customers to enjoy both indoor and outdoor seating. The Post and Courier

- ➤ City police dismissed the assault charge against Councilmember Monier Abusaft on Sept. 19 after a review showed that witness statements and evidence did not match—his lawyer said there was not enough proof to meet the required standard. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright faces 65 ethics charges—63 of which stem from using a county credit card to spend over $17,000 on personal items like cigarettes, snacks, and subscriptions. A hearing is scheduled for February 19, 2026 — in Columbia to review the allegations. WSPA

- ➤ Fomalhaut, known as the Autumn Star, and Saturn will appear in Greenville’s southern sky tonight—Fomalhaut rises at 7:14 p.m., peaks at 11:44 p.m., and sets at 4:18 a.m. A recent geomagnetic storm has raised the chance of aurora borealis sightings if skies stay dark. Go Upstate
- ➤ Halloween has arrived in Spartanburg and the city now offers events for all ages—such as the Nightmare Hollow Haunted Trail open from dusk to midnight until October 31 and family-friendly celebrations at Pumpkin Path on October 26, along with trick-or-treating at local markets. Spartanburg.com

- ➤ USC Upstate opened its new Learning Commons building yesterday— a 26,000 square foot hub offering technology-enabled study rooms, an athletic study hall and a commuter lounge to boost student success. The facility also includes multipurpose classrooms and a Center for International Education, responding to students’ needs for more collaborative learning spaces. WSPA

- ➤ Spartanburg’s free downtown parking lot on Broad Street will close on Oct. 5—its space is set to be replaced by a new parking garage with over 900 spaces after nine months of construction. City officials said nearby garages will offer free parking passes and a free shuttle service starting Oct. 7 to help downtown workers and visitors. The Post and Courier
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed an outbreak of measles in the Upstate with eight cases reported as of October 1st—five of which were infected recently among unvaccinated people. The agency is following isolation guidance and is conducting a contact investigation to stop further spread. WYFF
- ➤ The Greenville County Coroner’s Office teamed with Upstate Warrior Solution to fight veteran suicide using real-time local data—sharing quarterly updates to support veterans and their families. The deal, signed on October 2, aims to refine outdated data and improve mental health services. WSPA
- ➤ The Department of Public Health confirmed eight measles cases in the Upstate and warned that the highly contagious virus can spread in areas with low vaccination rates—officials note the virus spreads through air and can linger in enclosed spaces for up to two hours. WSPA
