- ➤ The Spartanburg Parks’ Daytrippers group offered a shopping trip at Concord Mills Mall this week for adults 50 and older to enjoy local outings and make new friends. The group will take future trips on October 18 to Cheraw for Jazz Fest, on November 14 to Charlotte for the Southern Christmas Show holiday market, and on December 20 to see a Peanuts Christmas Swamp Rabbits hockey game at Bon Secours Wellness Arena—providing more chances for community fun. - ➤ Cyclebar Spartanburg announced its closure on Facebook on September 13 due to financial difficulties—ending six years of business at 120 West Saint John Street. WSPA
- ➤ Boot Barn opened a new store in Spartanburg at 1489 W. O. Ezell Boulevard on Sept. 30, offering hat shaping & cleaning, in-person boot fitting and a curated selection of Western wear. The store is the third in the Upstate and sixth in the state, and it operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. WSPA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright, who agreed to plead guilty to three federal charges, will have his arraignment on Monday, October 27 in Greenville County—if no plea deal is reached, a plea hearing will occur on October 30 and jury selection is set for November 3—and he faces 65 ethics charges for using a county credit card for personal purchases. - ➤ Walnut Grove Plantation’s main house, built in 1763, got over $1.5 million in repairs from local donors and a state grant and will open to visitors at FestiFall on Oct. 4-5. Experts fixed water and termite damage and kept many original features to show its role in the American Revolution—an important piece of local history. Go Upstate
- ➤ Fall festivals offer free cultural and family activities across the Upstate as the Albino Skunk Music Festival in Greer runs Oct. 1—4 with Americana performances and a Kiddieland, the Spartanburg International Festival at Barnet Park on Oct. 4 celebrates Paraguayan cuisine and live dance, and the 33rd annual Festifall at Walnut Grove Plantation in Roebuck on Oct. 4—5 features historic tours and colonial demonstrations as part of the state’s anniversary celebrations. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed eight measles cases by Oct. 1—two in July, one in early September, and five more recently. Two cases had unknown sources and five were linked to a school where children are expected to quarantine amid growing concerns over lower vaccination rates. WYFF

- ➤ South Carolina football is off today as the Gamecocks prepare for their matchup against LSU on Oct. 11—after a 35-13 win over Kentucky on Sept.27 ended a two-game losing streak. Go Upstate
