COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local leaders broke ground on a $30M project in Woodruff to build a new athletic complex featuring baseball and soccer fields, walking trails, and pickleball courts — along with a charter school called Libertas Academy — Woodruff that will open in fall 2026, with the complex scheduled for 2027. The project marks a key effort to serve the town’s growing community and sports needs.  Go Upstate

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Oct 9th, Vivacity Tech held a ribbon cutting at its new 67,000 square-foot Piedmont facility—this ceremony is expected to add 100 jobs and boost Chromebook production for schools in the Upstate.  WYFF

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flat Rock Playhouse presents Autumn at the Opry, Vol. 2 today at the Playhouse Barn where skilled musicians perform country music from bluegrass to honky-tonk—this event runs through October 26 with a special pre-show on October 16 and 17 and is led by co-directors Katie Barton and Ben Hope.  Spartanburg.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting October 25, the free teen driver training program B.R.A.K.E.S.—founded by drag racer Doug Herbert—will offer hands-on behind-the-wheel lessons at Spartanburg Community College on October 25 and 26. Teens aged 15 with a learner’s permit must attend with a parent to learn safe driving skills from professional instructors.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Oct. 9, South Carolina health officials confirmed 11 measles cases in the state, including a Greenville child, with eight cases identified in Spartanburg County since July. Fairforest Elementary and Global Academy excluded unvaccinated students until Oct. 22 and contacted affected families—150 students were exposed.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Savannah Bananas announced the 2026 schedule for Banana Ball with a three-game series in Spartanburg at Fifth Third Park where the Texas Tailgaters will face the Indianapolis Clowns from Aug. 6-8 — a ticket lottery is open through Oct. 31 with tickets starting at $35.  WYFF
