COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Spartanburg Herald-Journal announced today that it is partnering with AI-powered search engine Perplexity — which will use its verified local reporting in curated answer results — to bring trusted news to the community. The deal will also provide new revenue to support the newsroom.  Go Upstate

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At Tri-County Technical College, a student was taken to the Augusta Burn Center after a fireball incident during a welding class when gas ran too long before ignition and the student wore proper protective gear—officials have yet to share the student's condition.  WSPA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Publix grocery store will open in Duncan at the northwest corner of E. Wade Hampton Boulevard and Pine Ridge Road. The 50,325 square foot store will employ about 150 associates—an official opening date is yet to be set.  WYFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spartanburg School District Four will open its new $100M high school in Woodruff next fall to serve rising enrollment from local housing growth. The campus will have 60 classrooms, two gyms, and a 600-seat auditorium, and district officials said security measures — including metal detectors and security-proof glass — will be installed as part of a district-wide grade restructuring.  WYFF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service in Greenville and Spartanburg says North Carolina and South Carolina have spent twice as many days in the hurricane cone as any other state—2025 shows an unusual trend—and Arizona and New Mexico tied for second most days, urging residents to stay prepared for storms.  WYFF

FINANCE NEWS

  • A lottery player in Woodruff became the state's newest millionaire after winning $2.5 million on a Magnificent Jumbo Bucks scratch-off ticket at Nick’s Mart on North Main Street. Officials said the ticket beat 1 in 1.72 million odds — three more prizes remain and Nick’s Mart earned a $25,000 commission.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nationwide measles outbreaks continue to drive record case counts with 1,563 cases reported so far since January, and low vaccination rates remain a critical concern. In Spartanburg County, more than 150 unvaccinated children at two local schools are in quarantine—health officials warn that the county's vaccination levels put the community at higher risk for further spread.  WYFF

  • South Carolina high school football teams played SCHSL Week 7 games on Oct. 10, with scores from many matchups—including a Spartanburg contest featuring Dorman—reported by local media. The results come as teams approach the final four regular season games, with live updates from sources like the Greenville News, Spartanburg Herald-Journal, and Anderson Independent.  Go Upstate
