- ➤ Sherman College of Chiropractic will host a family-friendly trunk-or-treat event on Oct 24 from 5—6:30 in Spartanburg County, offering games, toy prizes, candy, and a teal pumpkin program for candy-free treats. Cars must be parked by 6:15 to join the event. WSPA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, a very dry air mass is moving into South Carolina—lowering humidity to the low 20s and bringing winds that may gust up to 20 mph. Officials urge residents not to burn anything outdoors since small sparks can quickly start dangerous fires. WSPA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Social Services warned that 260,000 SNAP households will not get their November benefits if the federal shutdown continues. Beneficiaries are urged to use remaining funds wisely—lock their EBT cards and seek help from local food banks. WSPA
- ➤ Former Spartanburg County Council Chairman Jeff Horton, who served from 1994 to 2018, died on Oct. 20 after suffering a massive heart attack. He was remembered as a pragmatic leader who expanded county parks and backed projects like the new courthouse + united diverse community groups. Go Upstate
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Four measles cases were reported Tuesday in Spartanburg County amid low turnout at mobile vaccination units—only seven doses were given last week. Two cases involved quarantined contacts and two were linked to a local business with no public exposure, and more than 150 students were quarantined from two schools while health officials plan to extend vaccination unit hours.
