ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ At an Oct. 20 meeting, Spartanburg County approved tax breaks for Tindall Corporation, Dave Steel and Primis Property II which may bring nearly $96 million in private investments, new jobs and industrial space. Tindall may invest almost $50 million, Dave Steel about $26 million and Primis Property II $20 million—final approvals are still needed for Tindall and Dave Steel. The Post and Courier
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Swofford Career Center in Inman are enrolled in a two-semester Firefighter II program that requires 280 hours of classroom and skills training—covering topics from HAZMAT operations to electrical battery fires. Local fire departments in Spartanburg County School Districts One and Two are ready to hire graduates as soon as they complete the program. WSPA

- ➤ AccuWeather says South Carolina’s fall leaves are expected to be typical this season — Falls Park on the Reedy, Lake Keowee and Poinsett Bridge offer good views as peak color arrives in mid to late October. Experts warn that strong winds from a tropical storm may knock leaves off trees before the colors fully show. Go Upstate

- ➤ Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greer is holding a food drive for federal workers working without pay due to the government shutdown that began on Oct. 1; donations of nonperishable food and household goods may be dropped off at the Information Center between 9 a.m.—7 p.m. or at the Valet Parking kiosk between 7 a.m.—7 p.m. to support TSA, FAA, National Weather Service, and Customs and Border Protection personnel. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Doctors note that emergency rooms see many Halloween injuries from pumpkin carving cuts, falls, and traffic accidents, so parents in Spartanburg are urged to supervise children carefully. Dr. Leana Wen recommends using battery-operated candles and adding reflective tape to costumes—simple steps to improve safety—so families can reduce injury risks this Halloween. WYFF
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed two new measles cases in Spartanburg County since Tuesday—bringing the total to 25 and linking the new cases to quarantined contacts—and said a Mobile Health Unit will visit Inman and Boiling Springs Libraries later this week to provide free MMR vaccines. - ➤ Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has extended its agreement with UnitedHealthcare until November 3—keeping its hospitals and affiliated doctors in network for commercial and Medicare Advantage plans. If a new deal is not reached, its facilities will lose network status for employer-sponsored plans and family plans will expire on December 31. WSPA
