- ➤ Dominique Smith, Victoria Sutton and upstate family members became stranded in Jamaica when Hurricane Melissa disrupted their birthday trip and limited phone signals—leaving them isolated in a hotel while relatives in Abbeville pray for their safe return. They remain uncertain about when a safe flight home will be available. WYFF

- ➤ After several rainy days, Friday will be sunny in the Upstate with patchy frost before 9 a.m. and highs in the low to mid-60s — trick-or-treaters should bundle up for chilly conditions. WYFF
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Simpsonville is looking for a new management company for its 15,000-seat CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park as its City Council ended an almost eight-year contract with TRZ Management on Oct. 28. TRZ will continue operating the venue until Jan. 30 while the city begins its search to attract bigger acts and enhance local events amid growing regional competition. The Post and Courier
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg County health officials are raising measles awareness after 30 cases have been reported mostly at two schools with low MMR vaccination rates and are using multilingual educational materials to inform the community. The department’s mobile clinic is at Inman Library (50 Mill St.) today from 1-4 p.m. and will visit Boiling Springs Library (871 Double Bridge Rd.) on Nov. 3 to boost vaccine uptake while quarantines help limit spread. - ➤ Woodmont beat Hillcrest on Oct. 29 to move into the Upper State finals and will face Nation Ford in a rematch on November 3—while Dorman swept Mauldin on Oct. 29 and will play Boiling Springs on November 4—adding to a busy playoff roundup. Go Upstate
- ➤ Freshman quarterback Bear Woods led Westside to a 21—7 win over Wren for the undefeated Region 1—AAAA championship on Oct. 30 with two touchdown passes to Jacob Lewis—Coach Brian Lane said Woods, who has grown from early struggles and turnovers that the defense helped cover, is set to lead his team into the SCHSL playoffs when their fate is decided on Nov. 1. - ➤ On Oct 28, the SCHSL girls golf state championships at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg ended early because of poor weather. T.L. Hanna won its second consecutive Class AAAAA D2 title with Marissa Scarletta taking the individual crown at 1-under-par 71—Mountain View Prep earned back-to-back Class AAA titles while Chesnee claimed its fifth straight Class AA crown.
