- ➤ Benson Automotive is holding a food drive in November to help local families in need in Spartanburg, Easley and Greer. Donations of shelf-stable items such as canned meats, vegetables, soups, peanut butter, rice and pasta are accepted at dealership locations (Benson Nissan, Benson Kia, Benson Hyundai, Benson Ford, Benson Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Benson Alfa Romeo) and will go directly to local nonprofits. - ➤ A Clemson fan won $200,000 on a Clemson Jackpot ticket bought at Scotchman—#3804 on Fernwood Glendale Road in Spartanburg, leaving her Gamecock fan husband shocked when her $5 ticket turned into a six-figure win. It was the second top prize win in the county and one more $200K prize remains available at odds of 1 in 520,000. WYFF
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 556,000 South Carolinians will lose SNAP benefits, which provide about $104 million in food support for 266,000 households, when the government shutdown halts the program today. Governor McMaster activated the One SC Fund — and sent the State Guard to help food banks as families face uncertainty. WYFF
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State health officials reported four new measles cases in Spartanburg County since Tuesday, raising the Upstate total to 37 and continuing a county outbreak of 34 cases. The Mobile Health Unit, deployed since October 16, offers MMR vaccines at local libraries and will operate until November 6 — ensuring residents have access to protection amid the outbreak. WSPA
- ➤ The FDA announced on October 29 that two types of California-grown peaches sold at Kroger in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia were recalled due to a possible listeria risk—shoppers should check for PLU stickers 4401 or 4044 as the recalled fruit was sold from Sept. 16 to Oct. 29 while items marked 'Washington' or 'Organic' are not affected. - ➤ On October 31, T.L. Hanna senior Caden Morrell returned a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown as time expired at Sirrine Stadium to give his team a 27-24 win over Greenville. The play stunned the crowd when Greenville’s celebration was cut short and improved the Yellow Jackets’ record to 9-1. Go Upstate
