- ➤ BMW hosted its first Manufacturing Career Day at its Spartanburg technical training center where more than 1,200 middle and high school students from 28 schools saw robotics demos, toured labs, and learned about a two-year apprenticeship program with local colleges—an effort to introduce new talent to modern manufacturing careers. - ➤ As the clocks changed, deer have become more active at dawn and dusk as mating season peaks and early darkness aligns with their natural movement, officials said this time of year sees nearly half of deer-vehicle collisions. - ➤ Today the South Carolina State Guard works with Harvest Hope Food Bank in Greenville and Columbia to deliver food to families affected by the SNAP benefits shutdown. The program runs from Nov. 5th to 7th and from Nov. 10th to 14th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at sites—2818 White Horse Road in Greenville and 2220 Shop Road in Columbia—. WYFF
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg Regional Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare reached a three-year agreement to improve care for patients on UnitedHealthcare’s commercial, Medicare, and Exchange plans—this deal follows a contract dispute and several short-term extensions that left members unsure of their coverage, replacing a contract set to expire on October 14. - ➤ In Abbeville County, a calf near Gin House and Crooked Roads tested positive for rabies, exposing four people and prompting quarantine for 10 cows, while in Greenville County a skunk near Jonesville Road and Strasburg Drive tested positive, and one dog is set for quarantine. Exposed individuals were referred to health care providers—contact DPH for guidance—and state officials continue to monitor the situation. WYFF
- ➤ South Carolina's measles outbreak in the Upstate has seen no new cases today, with 34 active cases in quarantine and the situation still being closely watched + state epidemiologists warn that new cases may appear until 42 days pass after the last reported case. Public health is offering a free MMR vaccine at Boiling Springs Library from 1-4 p.m. today to help protect those exposed and to remind people to get their flu shots before the holidays.
