CRIME NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warned residents today about a rise in phishing scams that use fake process servers to collect personal information—scammers often rely on leaked data to trick people—while advising caution and verification through local court websites.  WSPA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report led by Clemson University researcher Bob Brookover shows that downtown Spartanburg construction projects since 2017 have generated over $1.77 billion in economic impact countywide and supported 13,706 jobs, surpassing local manufacturing numbers. Mayor Jerome Rice said the growth has spurred improvements in schools, roads, and public safety—helping set a strong course for the community's future.  Spartanburg.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ordered the USDA to use a contingency fund and pay full SNAP benefits for November by today; North Carolina officials say money could reach accounts as early as next week while South Carolina leaders are still finalizing a timeline (30,000 local households received SNAP benefits in 2023).  WYFF
  • The FAA announced plans to reduce air traffic by 10% at 40 major airports starting November 10—travelers headed to and from Greenville-Spartanburg may see delays as airlines update flight information. Local officials said passengers should check with their airlines for the latest details.  WSPA
  • Spartanburg County officials closed the Hawthorne Avenue bridge over Jimmies Creek after inspectors found repair issues — the bridge remains open to local traffic while detour routes are set.  WSPA

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • CityRange Steakhouse Grill, a longtime Spartanburg restaurant, marked its 20th anniversary by offering flashback menu items such as grilled brie, chicken pie and grilled donut dessert. The restaurant remains the longest operating independent eatery on the west side — leaders say its chef-inspired twists on classic American favorites add to its enduring legacy — and invites locals to celebrate its milestone.  WSPA

  • On November 6, Woodmont girls volleyball won its first state championship in 47 years by beating North Myrtle Beach in a five-set match at Dreher High School. Key players included Mallory Mizell with 24 kills, junior setter Riley Gross with 53 assists, and senior libero Lauren Smith with 30 digs (final set 15-13).  Go Upstate
