  • Brushy Creek Post Acute Care in Greer hosted its first beauty pageant for women 65 and older Thursday — contestants from 15 skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers competed in evening wear, talent, and poster board swimsuit segments, with Barbara Cook crowned, Kimberly Matthews placing second and Annette Hendricks third.  WSPA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ximena Estrada-Cano, a student at Inman Intermediate School, was named the first South Carolina recipient of the Kindest Kid in America award—recognizing her exceptional acts of kindness. The national campaign, founded to prevent bullying and promote inclusion, shared her story with schools to inspire empathy—strengthening a culture of care.  WSPA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Travelers at GSP faced multiple flight delays and cancellations on Friday due to FAA orders to cut air traffic at 40 major airports—officials said the move targets controller fatigue and airline revenue losses. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy indicated airlines will resume more flights next week—passengers were urged to check with carriers for updates.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Carolina recorded its first new measles case in a week, bringing the outbreak in Spartanburg County to 35 cases and the state total to 38. Health officials said more cases are expected from family contacts and 31 people remain in a 21-day quarantine while mobile clinics will offer free vaccines on Nov. 12 and 13 at Lyman First Baptist Church.  The Post and Courier
  • The DPH confirmed on November 4 that a calf near Gin House and Crooked Roads in Abbeville and a skunk near Jonesville Road and Strasburg Drive in Greenville tested positive for rabies—four people and ten cows in Abbeville and one dog in Greenville were exposed and placed under quarantine.  WSPA
