BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning for its new store in Duncan located at the corner of Highway 290 and Shoals Road near the Tyger River Campus of Spartanburg Community College. The 21,831-square-foot store is ALDI’s fifth location in Spartanburg County—town officials are excited about its opening.  WSPA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chadwick Boseman—a native of Anderson known for his lead role in Marvel's Black Panther—was honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Oct. 20. His widow Simone Ledward-Boseman accepted the tribute as director Ryan Coogler and Viola Davis spoke at the ceremony.  The Post and Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spartanburg County School Districts one to seven announced a new academic calendar for the 2026 to 2027 school year that will begin on August 6 and end on May 28. The schedule adds a fall break from October 15 to 16 and a winter break from February 15 to 19 while still meeting the required 180 school days — it also includes staff development days for teacher collaboration.  WSPA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina’s Department of Social Services said full November SNAP benefits will be loaded onto select EBT cards today for households approved between Oct. 16 and Nov. 13 and those with a monthly issuance date from the 1st to the 14th. SNAP households with issuance dates between the 15th and 19th will get their benefits on their regular schedule — recipients are urged to lock their cards, change PINs, and disable out-of-state purchases.  WYFF
  • City officials announced Wednesday that a 38-foot cedar Christmas tree was installed at Denny’s Plaza in partnership with Old City Cemetery — it marks the start of Dickens of Christmas with a tree lighting scheduled on December 2 at 7:30 p.m.  WSPA
  • South Carolinians who missed their November SNAP benefits because of a 43-day federal shutdown will have funds loaded onto their cards Friday — those who normally receive benefits on a rolling schedule will get theirs on time. More than 176,000 households were affected — about $105 million in benefits will be distributed while emergency funds continue to support local food banks.  Spartanburg.com
  • The South Carolina Department of Social Services announced that starting today full SNAP benefits for November will be available on EBT cards for new households and those who would have normally received them from November 1st to 14th. Households with dates from November 15th to 19th will get their benefits on the regular schedule—more details are on the DSS website.  WSPA

  • BMW Charity Pro-Am announced Thursday that the tournament will move to the Country Club of Spartanburg for its 2026 edition from June 4 to June 7—this change comes after four years at The Carolina Country Club and aims to enhance the experience for players, celebrities, and spectators.  WSPA
  • High school athletes in the Upstate have signed college offers on National Signing Day as reported by coaches and directors from local schools. The list, which includes sports such as basketball, soccer, and swimming, is organized by sport and shows each player's college choice.  Go Upstate
