- ➤ Duncan Park now has six new pickleball courts + two resurfaced tennis courts available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. as part of a conversion plan announced in August + a survey of over 60 park users indicated strong demand for pickleball. WSPA
- ➤ Miracle Hill in Spartanburg hosted a turkey fry (inspired by Tracy Lawrence's WSSL interview with Bill Ellis) to feed 7,000 Thanksgiving meals, sparking a local effort to support the holiday. Go Upstate
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School district leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the site of the new Jesse Boyd Elementary School on Webber Road — the former location of McCracken Middle School that had been vacant since 2020. The school will feature interactive technology, flexible collaboration areas, a performance stage, fine arts classrooms, and a childcare center for 66 children, and it is set to open in August. WSPA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina officials announced that unemployment insurance tax rates for employers will decrease or remain the same in 2026, resulting in a $40 million overall reduction from 2025 levels— the largest cut since 2011— as the state fund reaches record levels. The move comes amid strong contributions to the fund and continued low unemployment benefits, capped at about $350 per week. The Post and Courier
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Two skunks in separate counties tested positive for rabies, exposing two horses near Browning and Barret Meadow roads and three dogs near Garrett Patton Road in Fountain Inn — all of which were quarantined under the South Carolina Rabies Control Act. No people were exposed and officials advise contacting the Greenville-Spartanburg office if pets may have come in contact with a rabid animal. WSPA
