COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Spartanburg will transform into a Victorian village today for Dickens of a Christmas, featuring period costumes, local music, and food vendors. Several streets will close at 1 p.m., and parking is available at multiple garages—Dunbar, Kennedy, Magnolia, St. John, and Stadium—to accommodate the event.  Go Upstate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Three Upstate authors shared details of their books—two about South Carolina history and one on parenting and education—in an article updated at 11:08 a.m. on Dec 1 in Greenville.  WYFF
  • Spartanburg hosts a series of live concerts and holiday events throughout December. The schedule includes Converse University's The Nutcracker at Twichell Auditorium from Dec. 12-14 and Christmas concerts at First Baptist and Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.  The Post and Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Duke Energy plans a rate hike for nearly 680,000 Upstate customers in 2026, but a settlement may lower the initial rise to 84 cents a month instead of a 7.6% increase—pending approval by the South Carolina Public Service Commission. The change is set to begin on March 1 if approved.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today the Consumer Product Safety Commission urged Spartanburg families to follow safety tips to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and fires during winter weather. The guidelines advise using generators only outdoors—at least 20 feet from homes—and checking CO and smoke alarms regularly.  Spartanburg.com
