COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Total Ministries, a local nonprofit at 976 S. Pine St., helps 50 families daily and now expects more residents to need food as prices rise. The agency will hold a Hub City Empty Bowls fundraiser on Feb. 7 at RJ Rockers Brewing Co. + a 5K run on March 14 at Fifth Third Park.  The Post and Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 12, the Department of Public Health reported 15 new measles infections in Spartanburg County, with two public schools placing students under quarantine due to household exposures + officials noting that 11 schools and 303 residents are affected. Health officials continue to investigate the outbreak.  Go Upstate
  • Spartanburg residents are urged to sign up for Affordable Care Act plans soon as pandemic-era tax credits that lower premiums expire by year’s end. Health experts advise that even if costs increase, residents may consult a healthcare navigator + agent before enrollment closes on Monday.  WYFF

  • Furman men's soccer played at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 against Washington in the NCAA tournament semifinals at First Horizon Stadium in Cary, North Carolina. The Paladins marked a 14-match unbeaten run in Coach Doug Allison’s final season after 31 years at the helm.  Go Upstate
