- ➤ Families and community members welcomed home 76 soldiers of Bravo Battery at the Easley Armory on Saturday after a 10-month overseas deployment—emotions ran high as reunions brought relief and pride to soldiers and their loved ones. Military leaders noted the long separation and the sacrifices made by families during the deployment. WYFF
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina’s first responders are mourning several heroes this week — Trooper Dennis Ricks died after being struck during a traffic stop on I-26 on August 9, Capt. Steve Henderson died following a motorcycle crash last Thursday, and retired Captain Phillip Brown’s funeral is held today at Shady Oak Baptist Church in Greenville. The community also lost Chief Mark Holbrook and retired Lieutenant James Andy Brown of the Gantt District Fire Department, whose decades of service left a lasting legacy. WSPA

- ➤ Rising eighth grader Ayham Mosallam was injured when debris from a December explosion in Gaza hit his home and he is now receiving treatment at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville thanks to local medical student Tareq Hailat — director of Global Affairs at the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund — who used his connections to secure urgent care.
