  • The City of Spartanburg is reviving its free neighborhood conference this Saturday at Spartanburg Community College downtown—residents can join six sessions covering topics such as code enforcement, home maintenance, wills and heirs, and identity theft with breakfast at 7:30 a.m.; registration is available at the door.  WSPA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Preslie Ross, the runner-up at the Miss North Carolina USA pageant held in Spartanburg last weekend, says she broke no rules and that the crowned winner was ineligible; her attorney warned that a lawsuit will be filed if the organizers do not correct the result. A Blaize Productions defended its decision by stating Ross used the makeup bar without proper registration — a rule violation that led to her disqualification.  The Post and Courier

  • The Atlantic hurricane season stayed quiet as the peak passed yesterday—no tropical storms or hurricanes formed while forecasters tracked only two tropical waves.
